Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. Eddy for giving us Christian Science. I did not come to it for healing, but because I was very unhappy. One day a sister who had been healed in Christian Science visited us. Several years before, my mother, although not a Christian Scientist, after exhausting the skill of many physicians, had given this sister the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. While this sister was visiting us she asked me if I would be interested in Christian Science, and when she returned to California she sent me a copy of Science and Health. I read it for two years every spare moment in the day, and at night until twelve or one o'clock. I had many wonderful healings in those two years. One was of stomach trouble, which I had had for many years, and for which I thought there was no cure. In fact, I was so exuberant over my first healing that I felt like the philosopher of old who said, "Give me a fulcrum on which to rest a lever and I will move the earth."

Some time after that I had occasion to seek a practitioner. She described to me what it would mean for one to carve a beautiful statue, telling me he would knock off the big chunks first, and one would think he was doing rapid work. I am just beginning to understand what she meant when she said it might take years to do the finer work. Then she likened this sculptor to any person traveling along the narrow road trying to reach the Horeb height in Christian Science.

It is nearly seven years since I came into Christian Science, and every year has given me a different viewpoint. Being a very reticent girl I always put off until to-morrow the things I should do to-day—the things I called the difficult problems of life; so it took the physical problems to force me up the rugged steep. It required a physical problem to force me into church. Although I had read Christian Science literature for two years constantly, I had never gone to church. All my life I had been a member of a church which I joined when I was thirteen. I am now grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and also happy to be a teacher in the Christian Science Sunday School.
