Demonstrating Good

"Demonstration" is a word frequently used in Christian Science; and to those just beginning to perceive the wonderful truths contained in this Science, it may sometimes seem a little difficult to understand. A dictionary meaning of the word "demonstrate" is "to prove beyond the possibility of doubt;" so when we speak of demonstrating Christian Science we mean that we are proving the truths it reveals.

Constantly to know that all our needs, spiritual, mental, physical, and financial, can be met through Christian Science is the truly scientific attitude. God being infinite divine Mind, He is the only creator; and being omnipotent Love, He can create only what is true and good. Man is the idea of God, His image and likeness; therefore man already has all good, and it should be our highest aim to demonstrate this glorious truth in our daily lives.

Mortal mind would often have us believe that we are sick, or sad, or in need. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494) we find the following words, which have given strength and courage to many thousands in their struggle against the false beliefs that would fetter and discourage: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." We know this is true; but as Christian Scientists we must prove it by demonstrating that good is ever present and ever available. To do so, we must first purify our thinking from all desire for material gain, human power, and ease in matter.
