The Lectures

Canterbury, England (Society).

Lecturer: John W. Doorly; introduced by General Spencer E. Hollond, who said:—

Fifteen years ago I was a physical and mental wreck, suffering from consumption. I had spent a long time in sanatoriums both at home and in Switzerland in search of healing. At this juncture a friend of mine lent me a book called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Christian Science textbook, and told me to read it. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but this book presented me with a logical and reasonable Christianity. It so absorbed my attention that I could hardly stop reading the book day or night. The meaning of Jesus' life and work began to dawn on me, and in six weeks, to my amazement, I found myself completely healed; and as proof of that healing, I went through the war in France from 1914 to 1918 without being sick. Christ Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
