It was in the year 1897 that I took up the study of Christian Science. For three years previous to this a dear friend had tried to interest me in Christian Science, for she knew I was greatly in need of help. At first I was afraid I should get into some "ism" that I would regret; but after I had thought over it for three years, I finally decided that I would investigate. I called on my friend and asked questions, and she told me of her healing. Right there I took my stand for Christian Science. I asked my friend what I should do, and she told me to get the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and go to a practitioner. I followed these instructions, and through the study of the textbook and the help of a practitioner I was healed of Bright's disease and heart trouble, after five doctors had said it was impossible for me to be cured. After six weeks' treatment I was satisfied that I was healed, whereas before coming to Science I had been under a doctor's care over five years.
Four years after this healing I came under a severe test, so again I called on a practitioner for help; but the condition kept getting worse, until I lay helpless on a bed of suffering. At this point I consented to have my case diagnosed by a specialist. He found that an abnormal condition had developed in the right side of my abdomen, and said nothing but an operation could deliver me from it. I would say here that this doctor was very kind to me and offered in his way to help me, but I thanked him, and told him I had taken my stand for Christian Science and would not turn back. Then he advised me to get the very best help I could get in Science, which I did. It was a slow healing, but through it all I did strive, through the study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's works, to have the truth established in my thought, until there would be no more room for error. For about three years from the time this trouble began, the abnormal condition in the abdomen grew less and less, until it was entirely overcome with the truth.
Every day my thought goes out in gratitude to God, the Giver of all good, that I have found the truth which was revealed to this age through Mrs. Eddy's clear understanding of the Scriptures. I am very grateful for the healings, and for the clear understanding of the Scriptures which has come to me through the study of Christian Science. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, also for class instruction; and I am truly grateful for the annual Association meetings, which have meant so much to me, and for the Christian Science literature, including the Monitor, which is such a help to us along the way.—(Mrs.) Loveday T. Holsinger, Monongahela, Pennsylvania.
