I want to express my gratitude to God for the many...
I want to express my gratitude to God for the many blessings which have come into my life since I took up the study of Christian Science nine years ago. At that time I was at death's door, having been sick nearly twelve months, with sleeplessness and loss of appetite. I could not eat or sleep, night or day; and I was too weak to go out to walk. I lay on the lounge all the time, as I was unable to sit up in a chair. In one of the evening papers I saw a lecture on Christian Science which took my attention, and I began to read it. I soon found it was something which would do me good if I accepted what the lecturer said. I was so much interested that I kept reading the lecture over and over again; and as I read it my thoughts of wanting to die changed to thoughts of wanting to live, and my outlook on life changed from one of gloom to one of more faith and trust in God. I told some friends about this lecture, and through them I received some Christian Science literature. Sometimes it would be a copy of The Christian Science Journal, at other times a Christian Science Sentinel, or The Christian Science Monitor; and I got so interested in reading them that I forgot all about my ailments. What interested me most were the testimonies. I wanted to find out what the people said and did to be able to receive healing; and I tried to live as nearly as I could like them. As a result, in three or four months I found that my ailments had gone; and since that time my life has been a glad song.
I have had so many healings it would be impossible for me to tell of them all. I think my first healing was a very remarkable one, as I did not know anything about Christian Science, nor did I have a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was healed of constipation of sixty-four years' standing in one week. I have been healed of coughs, colds, sore throat, colic, bashfulness, nervousness, and fear. I could never speak or sing before an audience. But after coming into Christian Science I gave a testimony and spoke without a tremor. This was after my seventy-fifth birthday. That was a red letter day in my life—when I could stand up and say a few words in praise of Christian Science for the change it had produced in my life. Since that time I have given many testimonies. I had gone to church for fifty years before I took up the study of Christian Science, but I did not find the satisfaction I sought. And I had given up going to church for about two or three years before my sickness.
I cannot find words to express my gratitude to God for all the blessings which have come into my life, and to Mrs. Eddy for the life of self-sacrifice she lived in order to give to the world an explanation of the Bible in such a way that we all can learn the way to health and holiness. I am also very thankful for the help given us by our fellow church members, and for the loving help which our practitioners are ever ready to supply at all times of need; also for our literature. I am sending this testimony hoping that some one else will gain as much happiness in reading it as I have gained by reading those of others.—William H. Wrigley, Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts.
