Perhaps nothing tests one more than to preserve a mental stand during a lapse of years. It brings out true qualities of manhood. Occasionally it is well to look back over the years and to observe how the mist of mortal mind is dispersed, and we are encouraged and inspired to renewed endeavor.

My first experience with Christian Science was in the healing of inflammatory rheumatism. This healing was accomplished by reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. My religious training as a youth had been more on the moral side of life than on a knowledge of what God is. The consequence was that God's nature and love were very vague and intangible to me at that time. When I learned in the textbook that God is divine Mind, I accepted the truth and it healed me. About this time I was also healed, by the help of a practitioner, of a bad case of ringworm.

My next experience of the healing power of Christian Science was four years later. What doctors would have termed the disease, I do not know; but to me it was a new form of rheumatism. I tried for several days to meet it myself, but without success. Finally a practitioner was called, with the result that in about twenty minutes or so the stiffened limbs relaxed, and soon I was about the house and back at work. So complete was my healing that while serving in the United States army overseas during the winter of 1918 and 1919, sleeping and living in the wet and damp, going sometimes day and night without dry clothing, I had no tinge of the old complaint.
