I met with a severe accident while at work, receiving a compound fracture when an eighteen-hundred-pound casting fell upon my right leg. I was rushed to the hospital, where I stayed for fifty-four weeks, after which the doctors said nothing more could be done for me. They wished to amputate my limb, but I was firm in refusing to allow them to do that. Therefore they sent me home, despondent and discouraged. Later I had a consultation with a specialist and my family doctor. I was told that I undoubtedly would never use my leg again, and was advised to have it taken off as soon as possible. This was after a year of suffering at my home, when attacks would keep me in bed with a high fever for several days.

In June, 1915, my wife was entertaining a friend who had witnessed several wonderful healings through Christian Science. She told my wife of its great good, and I overheard the conversation. Feeling that the words she spoke were God's special gift to me, I immediately asked her to send a practitioner to me, which she gladly did. Two weeks after I began to receive treatment from this practitioner I discarded my crutches, never to use them again. I was the happiest man in the world, and glorified God's holy name for revealing this discovery to me. Later, when I was knocked unconscious, I received no medical care, but the loving treatment of a practitioner. Since then I have been active in my daily life and am using my leg constantly.

I am indeed grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to the practitioners who helped me. And I am certainly grateful to Mrs. Eddy for revealing this great truth to mankind, to the glory of the Father-Mother God.
