With deep and heartfelt gratitude to God for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science I offer my testimony, earnestly hoping that my experience may help others to place "radical reliance on Truth" (Science and Health, p. 167) in any extremity, and realize, not only its scientific healing power, but also joyous spiritual exaltation. In the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. vii) Mrs. Eddy writes, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings;" and I am living witness to the truth of her statement.

In October, 1920, while helping a friend test a piece of machinery, I was suddenly stricken with intense pain in chest and sides, accompanied by nausea and labored breathing. We immediately declared the allness of God and the perfection of His creation. We also called a Christian Science practitioner to help us realize man's Godgiven dominion; but the condition continued for several days. I could not sit or stand in any upright position. Going upstairs was particularly laborious. For several weeks I could not lie down. Sitting on the edge of the bed with pillows piled high on a table before me and leaning forward on this was my only means of rest and that for only fifteen to twenty minutes at a time. There was also swelling of the lower limbs and feet, to such an extent that I was obliged to get new clothing, shoes, and hose. During this time, through the power of God and our steadfast holding to the truth as taught in Christian Science, I was able to be up and about every day. One day, a physician for whom I had done some experimental work along electrical lines, called; and seeing my physical condition, he seemed much concerned. When asked who our doctor was, I replied that God was our only Physician, and that I was having Christian Science treatment. To this he replied that Christian Science might be good for some things, but not for such a condition as appeared in my case; and he added, "After my many years' practice of medicine I should pronounce you a mighty sick man." His pronouncement, however, gave me no fear; for I knew God to be omnipotent, omnipresent, infinite good, which made void the suggestion. A couple of months later, after I had regained my health, the doctor again called. He said that he was glad, but certainly was surprised to see me able to work.

My healing, humanly speaking, was wonderful; and it was brought about without medicine or material aid of any sort. I am indeed grateful to God, and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who revealed to the world this newold truth as taught by Jesus. I am grateful for the loving, patient assistance given by the practitioner, and for my wife's unfaltering faith. How often in the silent hours of the night, when error seemed most persistent, she would reassure me with such statements as these: "Have no fear; remember, 'The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.' Man is spiritual; and what can retard the perfect activity of the Almighty?" Thus we proved, indeed, that we are truly blessed when leaning on "the sustaining infinite."
