[Written for the Sentinel]

God, Our God

Through the gloom of our doubt, and the chill of our fear,
When we find earthly power unavailing,
Gleams the light of Thy truth, and Thy love comes to cheer,
O'er our doubt and our fear all-prevailing.

For no sorrow or pain in Thy presence remain;
Oh, the joy that is ours for the taking!
And dominion we gain, and our birthright attain,
As we know man to be of Thy making.

No harm can befall, if in Mind is our all;
And in Spirit no sin can be binding.
No mortal alloy can detract from our joy,
In Thee, our true weal ever finding.
