My heart is so full of gratitude for a wonderful healing...
My heart is so full of gratitude for a wonderful healing that came into my experience some time ago through Christian Science that I feel I can never do enough to prove my gratitude. We are told on page 3 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy: "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." I feel that in kindly deeds and in helping others to bear their burdens we can prove our gratitude to our loving Father-Mother God, for all the great good that has come to us through the knowledge of the truth that we are gaining from the study of Christian Science.
Several years ago, with a borrowed textbook I started the study of Christian Science and had not read very far when my eyes were healed. I had been wearing glasses for twenty years. While I still had the borrowed textbook. my husband had a wonderful healing of his throat. For weeks he had been under the doctor's care, and his throat was getting steadily worse. We feared cancer as the result of smoking. At this time, the battalion my husband was in was ordered to move in a few days to another camp. The doctor asked for several weeks' leave of absence for my husband in order to continue the medical treatment, as he said he would only be turned down by the medical officer in the new camp. The doctor spoke so alarmingly to me of the condition that I determined to use what little understanding I had gained of Christian Science through reading the textbook. My husband was perfectly willing to have Christian Science treatment, but the only practitioner I had heard of was in Chicago and it would take four days for a letter to reach him. On a Saturday afternoon I shut myself in my room with the Bible and Science and Health and worked for two and one-half hours to the best of my understanding, when a feeling of rest and peace came to me with the assurance that the work was done. A new bottle of medicine the doctor had given my husband was not opened and on the Monday following, when the army regulations required my husband to go to the doctor's office, he had a perfectly healthy, natural tonsil, and the astonishment of the doctor, who had considered the condition most alarming and had been treating it daily for two months, was great. He said it was the most wonderful healing he had ever seen; and to my husband's great joy he was permitted to leave with the rest of the battalion for the new camp.
I had already gained a great deal from my study of the textbook, which I read hungrily, but this healing of my husband's set my feet upon a rock. I knew then beyond any further doubt that I had found the truth, and my heart sang in praises to God. We have experienced many other healings, for I found that in gaining a knowledge of God healing comes with it; and when I realize that divine intelligence directs and divine Love protects, and that Truth, Mind, infinite wisdom, governs all activities, harmony is manifest in my affairs.—(Mrs.) Elizabeth Lilias McIntyre, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
