[Written for the Sentinel]

Dawn

Out of darkness and of dreamland
Where the weary seek repose,
Breaks the dawn with tints of azure,
O'er earth's tangled web of woes.

Burning heat of mad ambition,
Bitter griefs, tasks left undone,
With a sense of disappointment
As we toil from sun to sun,—

These vain thoughts have naught in common
With the truth of Life as God,
And the path above the human
Is the path the Master trod.

Gently break the dense night shadows
Of this earthly toil and strife,
And reveal the glorious dawning
Of the real, the spiritual life.

Here and now is God's glad sunshine,
Here the victory is ours,
If we uproot every weed and
Simply gather in His flowers.

His the strength for each day's effort,
Ours the endless joy to know
That true action but reflects Him
As on our daily round we go.

O, the peace that passeth knowledge,
That each child of Love may find
As the truth in radiance dawning
Proves he lives in perfect Mind.
