I wish to offer the following testimony of a healing...
I wish to offer the following testimony of a healing which is a constant joy and wonder, and I hope that my experience may help some one else. The teachings and example of my mother instilled in my heart a great and reverent faith in God. I also believed that the Bible was the Book of books, but I hardly ever opened its pages, and had never made a study of its teachings. I thought that God's name should only be spoken in church or in the sick room, thinking that His name was too sacred to be used in everyday affairs. I believed God to be the all-wise Father, and that he would reward those who were good, and punish those who were bad. I was afflicted with a very hasty temper and had spent whole days in a rage at everybody and everything, without any cause whatever, followed by self-pity, self-condemnation, and despondency. I had wondered why or how a loving God could be the author of sin or sickness.
As I took my place in the world's work as a railroad engineer there came a great desire to serve the Master by helping in some way the condition of my fellow workmen. Then came Christian Science, and it was seen that God was not and could not be the author of either sin or sickness; that God is Love, and man the expression or reflection of God. I was healed of the hasty temper, and the understanding that there is no selfhood apart from God, good, left no place or time for self-pity, self-condemnation, or despondency. The Bible became in fact the Book of books, the word of God speaking for the present hour instead of for the past and for the future. The words of Christ Jesus especially are as if a friend and brother were speaking now.
Through Christian Science I found a way to help my fellow worker. The introduction and distribution of The Christian Science Monitor is a means of fulfilling the desire to serve, and often opens the way for the word of truth to be spoken. I am indeed thankful for Christian Science, and very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and for her other writings.
