It seems to me that the time has come to send in my testimony to one of the periodicals. I have been healed of headaches, biliousness, and tonsillitis; some of this healing was the result of my own work and some the work of a practitioner. Each winter I had tonsillitis at least once, and often two or three times. Now I rarely have even a cold, and if that discord seems to be present I have only to trace it back to wrong thinking, and correct my thought. While I was away at school I asked one of my friends how she could always be kind and considerate to every one. In fact I never saw her angry or unhappy, and as I had a very disagreeable disposition this impressed me. She told me that she was a Christian Scientist.
One Sunday I went into a near-by city to church and was deeply impressed by the peace and harmony that was expressed in the service, though I understood very little of it, and while home on my spring vacation I studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was practically a year, however, before I was permitted to attend church at home, but that forced me to study my Bible and textbook as possibly nothing else would have. After the demonstration of attending church was made, there seemed to come a year or two of indifference, in which I never entirely lost sight of Christian Science but allowed pleasure in matter to creep in, although in time of need I always had help in Science. Some time ago, through a seeming great fear, I was forced to turn to the truth with all my heart. With the loving help of a dear friend I saw where I had been drifting, and have never returned to my indolence.
During recent years I have had many physical healings, for which I am very grateful; but what I am most grateful for is the revelation of God as good, as Love. For ten years before this I had been an atheist, because I refused to believe in a God that sent sin, sickness, death, and all the error that seems part of mortal experience. Christian Science has given me a God that I can worship. I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, also in a branch church, and that I am able to teach in the Sunday school. Words cannot express my gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her pure, self-sacrificing life. I can only endeavor to live the truth that she taught and thus be worthy of the name Christian Scientist.
