Signs of the Times
[From The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma]
An Oklahoma doctor selected Mary Baker Eddy as his ideal, backing his choice by pointing out the effects of her life on the lives of others. His letter, in part, says: To the Contest Editor: In the spirit of Christ's charity, as one who hopeth all things, endureth all things, and as one who brought consolation to the sorrowing and healing to the sick, Mary Baker Eddy stands out in history as the greatest feminine exponent of Christianity the world has ever known as well as the most remarkable woman of her age. To have founded a church and a faith which has thousands of adherents all over the civilized world is in itself a title to immortal fame. In the past women have commanded armies and ruled empires. History is full of tales of great women whose influence has been a power in the affairs of men and by far the greatest number attained their power by charm of person, but Mrs. Eddy rose to her high place through the power of thought. However people may differ about the doctrines she taught; however diverse human opinions may be as to her claims and writings, all must admit that she was a transcendent character. The world has been made better for her having lived.
