As Christian Science means life, health, and happiness to...
As Christian Science means life, health, and happiness to me, it is expressing my feeling mildly to say that I am grateful for it. When I first took up the study of this teaching, I was feeling very miserable and discouraged over a cold and catarrh in the head. My mother was receiving treatment at the time and I asked her in tears if she thought Christian Science would help me. She answered that she knew it would and at my request called the practitioner on the telephone. The practitioner sent me a message full of love and hope, which I shall never forget, and began treatment at once. That message was truly an angel of God and brought me more comfort than I had ever before experienced. In a short time I was healed; but that was the smallest part of the blessing, for with the assistance of the same loving Christian Scientist, and through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, along with other Christian Science literature, my whole outlook on life changed. It was for me the beginning of a new life,—a life filled with a hope which could not be taken from me, for I had gained a glimpse of the truth. That was over five years ago, and ever since then God, as understood in Christian Science, has been my ever present help in time of need. He has also been a never failing companion as Father-Mother, driving away loneliness and fears, making lovelier the beauties of nature, increasing the joys of friendship, and making everything fairer and brighter.
I have had many physical healings, among them being the healing of warts which disfigured both hands. My gratitude for the Christian Science literature is unbounded. I always find an article applicable to my needs which uplifts and strengthens. I am especially grateful for the Monitor, for it fills such a great need in our lives,—the need of knowing the truth in regard to human affairs, and of having a clear interpretation of passing events such as is given us in the editorials. In school life Christian Science has meant everything to me. During an epidemic of measles, symptoms which manifested themselves were overcome in two days with the aid of a practitioner. I have learned that God will guide us every step of the way if we only look to Him and away from matter. My desire is that I may, through consecration to the truth, constantly grow in grace, and by so doing show my thankfulness to God and my gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who so lovingly consecrated her life for the good of all mankind.
