It is my desire to bear witness to the goodness of God...

It is my desire to bear witness to the goodness of God, divine Truth. I joined an orthodox church as a boy, and it was after about twenty-five years as a member of that church that the Christian Science Sentinel brought the true meaning of divine Love into our home. Through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, my wife was healed of a badly spraine ankle, and this further awakened my thought. In the past seven years we have had many healings in our family. A growth on the eyelid, biliousness, colds, fevers, dislocations, coughs, and many other ills have been overcome, also ill temper. While serving as usher I was healed of appendicitis. I was taken with very severe pains on my way to church. After working mentally for about an hour, on taking my place in the church the quotation on the wall came to me, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). Relief came very suddenly. I was about to fall when one of the other ushers came to my aid with the thought, "God is thy strength;" and in a few minutes I was able to finish my duties as usher, go out and eat a hearty meal, and then usher for three hours at a Christian Science lecture that same afternoon.

It was a comfort and a means of great joy, during the time of the big gun and air raids on Paris, to realize that "clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you" (Science and Health, p. 571); also the following verse from the Bible was very helpful: "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day." While crossing the ocean the thought which overcome the fear of submarines was, "The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent" (Science and Health, p. 300). Not an enemy was sighted in our ten days' trip across, nor were we convoyed but by the thoughts of Truth. "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts."

I am grateful for church membership, for class instruction, for the Christian Science publications, reading rooms, and Sunday school; also grateful to be learning each day more and more of the Bible through the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings.—Lewis Riggles, Paris, France.
