Eleven years ago I was healed, through Christian Science...

Eleven years ago I was healed, through Christian Science, of curvature of the spine, from which I had suffered since childhood. I had been under the doctor's care for that and many other illnesses to which I seemed heir, but received no permanent help. For several years I wore plaster casts, and underwent various treatments which are customarily given for spinal trouble. The doctor said my only hope was that with care I might outgrow the difficulty to a great extent, but never entirely. Everything was done to make things easy and comfortable for me, and I seemed to grow stronger. Finally in 1907, while in a teacher's training school, I overworked, and the difficulty returned in a worse form than before. I suffered continually and was in a terrible state both mentally and physically.

We had a dear friend who had been healed through Christian Science of a very critical spinal trouble after having been given up by doctors all over the country. My family said that if Christian Science could help her it could help me, and why not try it? I was not ready to do so, but when I realized that I was constantly growing worse and had lost all hope in materia medica, I went to Boston to visit this friend. I did not ask for treatment, but I found peace and harmony in that home and in the lives of these dear friends, such as I had never known. I had several long talks with them in which many questions were answered regarding Christian Science. I also attended the church services and commenced to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Within one week I was healed and I returned to my home. That was over eleven years ago. Since that time there has never been any return of the trouble, and I have been able to perform all kinds of hard physical labor with no difficulty. I have also been healed of severe bilious attacks, headache, earache, toothache, colds, and various other ailments. Six years ago a great sorrow came into my life in the passing on of one who was very near and dear to us, but Christian Science enabled me to rise above this, into the realization that in Truth there is no separation. Slight colds and other ailments have been entirely overcome for our small child through Christian Science. He cut all his teeth with no pain or difficulty whatever, and is a perfectly happy, healthy boy.

I had always been very skeptical, and the last few years before becoming interested in Christian Science I sometimes doubted if there was a God, because I was so unhappy and suffered so intensely at times. Christian Science has taught me that there is a God who is Love, omnipotent and omnipresent, who heals all our diseases. I have learned to love the Bible and to read it understandingly, and no words can express my gratitude to God for the peace and joy which have come into my life and into the lives of my family. I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving this great truth to the world.

As a young man I joined one of the older evangelistic churches, but it so far failed to satisfy my religious ideas that I wandered away and had little interest in anything religious. About twelve years ago my attentin was called to Christian Science, and upon reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was at once impressed with its inexorable logic. While not needing physical help, I did see that Christian Science was the religion which I wanted and needed. In continuing my reading I soon found that the habit of profanity had left me, and in a short time the desire for liquor was likewise gone. This was the result of reading the book. The healing of the drink habit was greatly needed, for I was drinking much more than anyone knew of or I was willing to admit. Many physical healings have followed; perhaps the most noticeable was that of erysipelas, which was overcome very quickly. In business I have found a new and higher standard of honesty; but by far the greatest benefit which has come to me is the peace which has followed some knowledge of Truth. I am increasingly grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her discovery of the omnipotence of divine Mind, and regret that self-will and pride kept me from knowing much earlier this new-old religion.
