It is about thirteen years since Christian Science first...

It is about thirteen years since Christian Science first came to my notice. When "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was handed to me by a friend, I was suffering from weak eyes and had to use glasses, but one day, while reading the book, I was prompted to lay them off and have never used them since. I did not, however, at that time continue the study of Christian Science. A few years later, when my baby girl was about two weeks old, I was taken suddenly very ill with fever and a form of blood poisoning. The fever lasted four weeks, during which time I was not allowed to raise myself up and could not turn in bed. When the fever at last seemed to subside, I was very weak and prostrated, and I could be raised only a few inches at a time when there was an extreme nervous relapse. While I was in this condition Christian Science again came to me through the efforts of a dear sister who had been healed instantaneously of a similar trouble. My healing came slowly, but was beautiful and has been permanent.

Last April I had a severe attack of bronchitis and influenza, from which I suffered a relapse, causing high fever and extreme weakness. The third day the healing came through the voice of Truth, which said, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." After a careful study of the Sermon on the Mount, I could see what Mrs. Eddy means when she says on page 254 of Science and Health: "If you venture upon the quiet surface of error and are in sympathy with error, what is there to disturb the waters? What is there to strip off error's disguise?" I saw that I, too, as Jesus said to so many whom he healed, must arise, take up my bed, and walk. I sat in my chair and read the Lesson-Sermon, trembling with weakness and fear, and when I had finished, my strength had returned. I was not in bed more than half an hour that day, this being early in the morning. That night I did not feel any sense of weariness, and the words of Truth came as a spoken voice, "Perfect love casteth out fear." My baby has also received several instantaneous healings. I gladly give this testimony in the hope that it may help others out of the darkness and fear, into the glorious light of Truth and Love.
