I wish to tell about my healing in Christian Science, as...

I wish to tell about my healing in Christian Science, as some one in a similar condition may be led thereby to seek help from the same source. On March 4, 1910, I went to the Soldiers' Home (being a veteran of the civil war) for the sole purpose of placing myself in a position to be buried by the government. I had given up all hope of ever being able to overcome the drink habit, as it seemed impossible for me to get along without having liquor with me day and night. I also had a stomach disorder in its worst form, and in addition to this my heart was badly affected. Twice I had fallen in the street, and I was afraid I would do so again. In fact, I was a wreck both morally and physically. I had left my family, and my only wish was to be out of the way until the end should come.

On the morning of the fifth of March I awakened with my right side paralyzed, so that I was unable to walk or feed myself. I realized there was nothing known in materia medica that could cure me, for I had seen many a poor man thus afflicted who had tried all kinds of remedies with no good results. One day I met a lady who inquired what my trouble was, and on telling her, she asked if I wished to get well. My answer was not very civil, for I said, "Most any fool would." She advised me to get "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy from the library, and not only read the book but study it, and said I would be cured. I thought she was mentally unbalanced and did not take her advice, but again I met her and this time promised to do as she said. On the twelfth day of June I began to read, but was not much interested. Again I went over the book, this time in connection with the Bible, giving the same deep study. I also read "Miscellaneous Writings," and as I continued with my study, I became more interested. One day I went to dinner without my cane, as I discovered when I was ready to return to my quarters quite a distance away, and fear arose as to how I should get back. Then the thought came that as I had come without any material support I could return the same way. It was then I realized that I was healed, and since that time I have needed no material support.

After all the physical healing, however, there is nothing to compare to the spiritual uplift and happiness that has come to me, the understanding of God and of our Master's teaching. This was all accomplished in three months through reading and studying Science and Health. I had no help from any other source, no treatment whatever; and I would advise any one, whatever the trouble may be, especially if it is the curse of liquor in any form, to study that book in connection with the Bible, for it will cure him. I can now meet my fellow man with love and see him as God's child. Christian Science has also helped me in my business, for I go about my work with confidence, knowing that I am right. I left the home a well man on Sept. 16, 1910, and went to work at my trade, plastering, which I am following yet. I will be glad to answer any questions any one may wish to ask, well knowing that the understanding of God, gained through the teachings of our dear Leader, will heal all ills, both mental and physical.
