Christian Science has done so much for me in bringing peace, joy, and good into my life, which before seemed beset with discord, despair, and evil, that words cannot express my thankfulness to God, and my gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whom God revealed to this age the divine Principle which heals all our diseases.

My attention was directed to Christian Science through a younger brother. At first I was antagonistic and did all I could to discourage his interest in the subject. I was not long, however, in discovering that my efforts were in vain, and soon I began to realize that there were many good points in this religion. At this time I had been out of college for about a year, having failed in two colleges for about a year, having failed in two colleges on account of poor health and irregular living; but I did not seem to be having any more success out of college than I had while there. In fact, things seemed to be steadily growing worse, and I was in any but a happy state of mind. Among other things I was a slave to cigarettes and drink, and these habits interfered with my business to such an extent that success seemed impossible. I was unable to earn sufficient money to meet my expenses, and the result was that I was heavily in debt and constantly getting in deeper. Then, too, for a number of years I had been taking treatment from different physicians for an eruption which appeared on my face and which was very unsightly and annoying, but nothing relieved this condition; indeed, it seemed to be steadily growing worse.

I was a member of a church, but attended its services only on rare occasions, and then merely to please my mother of some other member of the family, for I could not believe all of its doctrines. I never believed that God created man capable of committing sin and then consigned him to eternal punishment for doing that which He had given him power to do; and I am grateful for the proof which Christian Science gives us that sin is not power, and is not real, for God is All-power, and God is good; therefore man, as the image and likeness of God, knows no sin.
