[Written for the Sentinel]

My Shepherd

The Lord my shepherd is; I know
No lack of guidance, good, or grace;
He leadeth me where'er I go,
And maketh clear the path I trace.
All places are His pastures green,
On all sides lie His waters still;
In every place Love's power is seen,
In every place is known His will.

And thus I come to understand
That God alone is Life and Soul;
Myself and all are in His hand,
And He doth lead, support, control.
As Father then He leadeth me
In His own paths of righteousness;
From all self-righteous vauntings free,
His power alone doth heal and bless.

And as dark thoughts to Truth give way,
The bounteous feast of Love is spread,
And o'er me dawns the perfect day,
Whence mists and shadows all are fled;
Thus, consecrated now anew,
With sureer faith and clearer sight,
Naught e'er again shall cloud my view,
Or e'en obscure Truth's holy light.
