I owe Christian Science endless gratitude, greater than any words can express, for it has healed me, and helped me in every possible way. In the three years I have been studying its teaching, it has done for me what twenty years of materia medica had failed to do. I was never free from some ailment. I frequently consulted doctors, followed their instructions, and took their medicines, always with the same result,—improvement for a short time, then a return of the old conditions. Among other things I was subject to periodical attacks of acute throat affection and influenza. My throat was once operated on, the doctors saying that this would put an end to the trouble; but within six months I had a more violent attack than ever. I continued to have these attacks, and after studying Christian Science a short time I was taken ill with one; but this time I had Christian Science treatment and was quickly and permanently healed. I was healed of influenza in the same way.

As the result of an illness when a baby, I was nearly blind in one eye. The eye was enlarged, and quite useless. The various specialists who examined it, agreed in their verdict that it was incurable, and that it would be impossible to restore the sight. One specialist operated on it, thinking he could at least put it straight, but when the bandages were removed, he found his work had been almost useless. I am sure they all did their utmost to help me. After studying Science and Health for a short time, I found the sight was returning, and the eye was becoming normal in position and size; and I am expectant that as my understanding of Truth increases, the sight will be fully restored. At the same time I found I was healed of ingrowing toe-nails, for which two doctors had treated me but had failed to cure me.

Soon after this I became very ill with stomach disorder and kidney disease, and an internal growth developed which was very apparent even through my clothes. My left side became contracted so that I could not stand upright, and a thick crust covered my hands, feet, and head. I had already received such convincing proofs of the healing power of Christian Science, that I at once applied to a practitioner for treatment. This was lovingly and generously given. In the time which followed I had many experiences of God's protecting care and power to uphold. There were times when I felt almost hopeless, but I found that as surely as I tried to be obedient, and know that whatever the material evidence I was in truth God's perfect child, so surely did I get my reward. I am indeed grateful for the mental and spiritual awakening which came to me at this time, especially for the lessons I learned in the overcoming of self.
