Surrey and Hants News, Farnham, England
My attention has been drawn to a paragraph in a recent issue, in which the term "faith-healing" is used as if it were synonymous with Christian Science, and I will ask you to allow me to say that there is a very great gulf fixed between what is known as faith-healing and the practice of Christian Science.
The writer of the paragraph referred to goes on to say that it is "the element of truth" in Christian Science which is of so much importance in healing disease. May I add that it is not merely an element of truth, but absolute Truth revealed by Christian Science which results in the healing of sickness as well as the destruction of sin, and that the faith of a Christian Scientist is not a blind belief that the Deity will eventually intervene and remove or alter some condition created or permitted by Him. It is that absolute or scientific knowledge of God, or Truth, which must, as Jesus declared, make men free,—free, that is, from the belief that sin, disease, or discord are more real or powerful than God. Nearly two thousand years ago Christ Jesus reminded humanity that sin, disease, and discord were contrary to the law of God, the law he had come to fulfil or reveal. Christian Science reiterates that teaching. In those early days the healing of sickness was just as essential a part of the practice of Christianity as was the reformation of the sinner. That is the standard maintained by Christian Science today. True healing, however, can never be accomplished so long as disease or any form of error is considered to be even permitted by Him who made all that was made.
