I send this testimony with gratitude for the many blessings...
I send this testimony with gratitude for the many blessings received in Christian Science. Several years ago I was stricken with what the doctors pronounced a nervous breakdown, and was told that I would not be able to do anything for a long time. I was sent away from home because it was thought that a change would do me a great deal of good, but I did not realize much benefit from that course. Nevertheless, I started to work again, though I did not feel as if I ought. I went on in that state for three and a half years, when I had to give up again, and was under the care of three doctors and took medicine for eighteen months, but did not improve at all.
While in a very confused and troubled state, not knowing where to turn for help, my wife met a dear friend, and in conversation about me she was told that my need was a better understanding of God, which could be gained by the study of Christian Science. A copy of the Christian Science Sentinel was given me; but although I found it good and helpful to read, I could not realize any benefit in the way of bodily healing until I sought the aid of a practitioner, when improvement began. Though I gained slowly at first, after a while I saw the error that was keeping me back; then I felt able to seek work again. I had been in a state of ill health so long that the firm for which I had been working did not at first think I would be able to do anything; so a friend gave me some work, and for this I was very thankful. Although it was an inferior position to what I had formerly held, I was glad to try anything. I then began to see that it was fear which had stood in the way of my getting on at the old place, but I realized that nothing could stand between me and my right work. I went to the old firm and got a place temporarily, and from that time I have remained there, soon getting back to my old work.
At the time of my breakdown my eyesight began to fail, but it has since slowly but steadily improved. I can now see to read for any length of time. I am able to and do overcome many difficulties in every-day life. A short time ago I had an attack of rheumatism, but with help from the same practitioner this was overcome, and I am now able to do even better work than I could before.
