On the 14th of November, 1911, my daughter and I were...

On the 14th of November, 1911, my daughter and I were engaged in some house-cleaning work, and I went out of doors with a lot of papers to burn, when in some unknown way my skirts caught fire. A great fear seized me and I cried out, but that very instant the "'still, small voice' of Truth" (Science and Health, p. 323) reassured me, and I realized as never before the allness of God. I knew that God was my help, and that I, as His child, could not be hurt. I declared the truth strongly, and with my hands tried to put out the blaze. I had on a pair of heavy kid gloves, but my hands were burned badly, the left hand and arm terribly. At length the flames were extinguished, but the burning on the lower part of the body was distressing. I managed to get up to the house and into the porch, and succeeded with one hand in opening the door. When my daughter saw me, she cried out, but I said to her that God had been with me, and that I thought the fire was all out, though when the clothing fell to the floor it was still burning. Kind friends came in with remedies, but I told them that God had helped me; and how I did praise Him for it! My daughter begged me to put something on my hands and arms, but I said that God is All, and that no error can harm His child.

I paced the room, declaring the all-power of Truth, and Truth did do the work. This was at half-past eleven in the morning, and at half-past one the burning sensation had nearly ceased. I then helped to lay a carpet, and at half-past three our dining-room was settled. The second day the soreness was nearly all gone, and I was able to sew and to attend to household duties. There was not even the least burning sensation on the lower part of my body, which was wonderful. My hands and left arm were badly burned, but they were healed in less than a week, with only a slight discoloration of the flesh and without any scars. I have been a student of Christian Science nearly five years, and this is the greatest demonstration I have ever experienced. My faith in God is greater than ever. I am so thankful to God, and so grateful to our Leader for this truth that saved me from death.—Mrs. M. E. Vossler, Fonda, N. Y.
