Denver (Col.) Times

It is well that the litigation has ended over the estate of the late Mrs. Eddy, Founder of the Christian Science religion. There was no ground in law, equity, or justice to sustain the case in court. Those who claimed the bulk of the estate under a feudal prescription had no great claim upon the fortune of the decedent. Accident of birth may determine a kingship and entail a principality, but not in a country of this kind. As an incident to carrying forward her remarkable propaganda Mrs. Eddy accumulated a large fortune, and at her death, after making due provision for those that might have claim or be dependent upon her, the estate reverted to the church which she built and fostered during her long and active life. What more just and ethical? There was a time, perhaps, when the religion that owes so much to her endeavor might have had scant judicial courtesy, but that time passed long since. Mrs. Eddy opened a new world and furnished a broader view of life to many weary souls. Public sentiment all over the land will uphold the court's decree.
