The article on Christian Science by Mr.—in a recent issue of the Advocate is before me. If the gentleman is serious in his reflections upon the duty of Christian Scientists to the sick and suffering, he should remember that the promise of Christ Jesus was to all who claimed to be his followers. His words were, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

If the Christian of today believes that the Master spoke these words to the people of his time, there is no argument in saying that "Christian Science poses before the world as the last word concerning human suffering," or that the promise was given for that specific time and people; for in his wonderful prayer shortly before his crucifixion, Jesus used these words: "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word." Christian Scientists do not claim to have a monopoly of doing good for humanity, they desire to share it with other Christians.

It cannot be gainsaid that the Christian Science method of relieving the ills (both moral and physical) of mankind has been successful in thousands of instances, but it in no wise prevents others who have faith in Jesus' words from doing likewise. To recognize the rightful position of any person who desires to follow the Christ-teaching as he understands it, our friend has but to recall the rebuke of the Master to John, when he complained to him because another who walked not with them had cast out devils in his name, "Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us." Therefore, instead of criticizing Christian Scientists for not reaching up to his own standard of perfection, the gentleman should be glad of even a little assistance to lessen the woes of humanity. Surely there is enough misery, discord, and criticism in the world without additional burdens.
