ONE YEAR

One year in Christian Science, one year in the household of God. A year? No, a thousand years; for, as Mrs. Eddy says, "the rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence" (Science and Health, p. 504). What has this Truth taught me? It has taught me of my priceless birthright, of the knowledge that I am a child of God, an idea of His infinite intelligence, reflecting harmony, purity, and love. And as "the divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus" (Science and Health, p. 25), so somehow, somewhere, soon, the divinity of the Christ will be made manifest through me.

What has this meant to me? It has meant earnest striving toward the actual living of the first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me;" and a constant endeavor to make an absolute surrender of my false gods of pleasure, limitation, and worldly success. I can as yet only say with St. Paul, "I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, ... I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus,"—the goal revealed to this age in Christian Science.
