MESSENGERS

Just because a little snowdrop raised her head above the snow,
Just because a dancing sunbeam touched a pale cheek into glow,
Just because one bird is singing in the woodland sweet and clear,
We have caught the whispered message, "Lift your heads, for spring is here!"

Just because one hope has blossomed in the snows of chill despair,
Just because a smile like sunshine made one moment all things fair,
Just because a voice is singing where was silence cold and drear,
We have caught the whispered tidings, "Wake, O hearts, for Love is here!"
