In the prophecy of Isaiah we have this pormise: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee;" and in Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "If Christ, Truth, has come to us in demonstration, no other commemoration is requisite, for demonstration is Immanuel, or 'God with us'" (p. 34).

Christian Science came to me in an hour of great need, when discouragement seemed to be an ever-present companion, when I felt hemmed in on all sides by fear, sickness, worry, and pain. I had passed through several years of bondage to numerous physical disorders, some of which were of a chronic nature. Material remedies and methods were given a thorough trial, but I grew worse rather than better. Finally, after suffering for several days with a painful attack of neuralgia, I went to the home of a Christian Science practitioner who lived near me and asked for treatment. The healing was almost instantaneous, and as soon as I reached my home I went to the table and ate dinner, which was the first food I had taken for several days.

A short time before this the word "Immanuel" was vividly impressed upon me in a dream, but I did not know or realize that the word meant anything. In reading a Christian Science Journal which the practitioner handed me when I was leaving her home, I found an article entitled, "Immanuel," and there learned that it was not a meaningless word, but that it meant "God with us;" it showed me that God is really with men, for He is infinite, ever-present Love. This, with the healing I had experienced, awakened such a desire to know more about God that I began at once to seek and to find more of this wonderful truth.
