I wish to tell in a few words of how my life has been...

I wish to tell in a few words of how my life has been touched and in part transformed through Christian Science. Previous to becoming acquainted with this Science of God, I had suffered for years with neuralgic pain in its various manifestations, which often grew intolerable. I spent nights in sleeplessness from heart disturbance, and during the day there always was more work awaiting me than I was able to do; but never a rest or unbending. I had to refrain from intercourse with others, in order to avoid excitement, and it was impossible for me to walk up-stairs without having spasms of the heart. Although I had long ago lost faith in drugs, I still believed it impossible to get along without the use of certain medicines. Moreover, since I was weighed down by disease in my family, and could see only disease and worry all around me, I had formed the opinion that there was no such thing as happiness on earth, and that suffering is the natural destiny of human beings.

While in this state of mind I became acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science through the healing of a severe sciatic trouble in the case of my married daughter. Mrs. Eddy's wonderful interpretation of the Bible seemed to me like a new gospel, and I delved with my whole heart into the pure and wondrous Christ-teaching, with its promise of heaven on earth and the possibility of all our material distresses being reduced to nothingness. Shortly after this, I noticed that my condition was improving, and the pain gradually disappeared. a sense of joy and buoyancy began to make itself felt, where resignation to suffering had prevailed, and the understanding began to dawn upon me of a God who loves His offspring and protects them from all evil, who imparts the wealth of His fatherly love and goodness to His children without restriction, that it might fare well with them. I experienced a new, a hitherto undreamed-of sense of happiness, which unloosed all former fetters and filled me with unspeakable gratitude to the creator of all good.

Two years have elapsed since, in the course of which I have been afflicted with various troubles, but they have been entirely overcome with the help of a Christian Science practitioner. I have been completely healed of a knee trouble and of pain in the back caused by a fall, as well as of sciatica, and have gradually gained in the understanding of Christian Science. The more pronounced my attitude of indifference with regard to material pleasures and requirements, the more self-abnegation I exercise while doing works of charity, the more do I apprehend the nature of true Christianity and experience the blessings emanating therefrom.
