[Written for the Sentinel.]

"AS IT IS IN HEAVEN"

Is the load heavy? Love ne'er placed it there.
Grieve not nor faint, it cannot bow thee down
Rise in the strength of Spirit,* and thy prayer
Will mount to heav'n and claim the victor's crown

Forgiveness difficult? Then close thine eyes
To all but Love's idea—perfect man.
The error from thy brother distant lies
As pole from pole in God's unerring plan.

Be still, and know that only Love doth reign
Supreme above the seeming ills of sense.
Out of earth's darkness then thou shalt attain
The joy and freedom of omnipotence.
