GOD'S WORD IS SURE
In Christian Science we learn that God's creation is perfect and eternal; it cannot change. In that creation all His children are given dominion, and though the material senses would try to rob us of our birthright, this dominion is forever ours, for God's word is sure. Mortal existence has been fraught with appalling tragedy because men have not been awake to their privileges, they have misunderstood both their relation to God and to each other. Mrs. Eddy says: "Love and Truth are not at war with God's image and likeness" (Science and Health, p. 19). Since there is no other power than good, there is manifestly nothing that can harm those who steadfastly perceive man as made in the image and likeness of God.
We may well pray for deliverance from the belief in evil, for in proportion as we are able to put this belief out of consciousness will we find freedom from bondage to fear and inharmony. In the light of Christian Science we see our mistake and begin to retrace our steps toward our Father's house, that loving Father who meets us while "yet a great way off" and begins at once to clothe us and reinstate us, giving us our rightful place as sons of God. In the illumination of Science we can no longer doubt that the word of God is sure, and we begin to look for a realization of His promises. From the flood to the present time HIs word has never failed. He has delivered those who unswervingly trusted Him, and in every cloud they have seen the bow of promise. If, when the overwhelming blackness of error seems to manifest itself, we will but look away from it to the promise given for the emergency, we shall find the threatening disaster powerless to overwhelm. It will even be turned into an opportunity to show us the power of Truth to deliver, and through such experiences we learn to take God at His word.
God said to Abram: "Thou shalt be a blessing;" and again, "In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." As the "children of the promise" we have inherited this right to be a blessing, and if we are not a blessing we are not living up to our God-given inheritance. God's word is sure, therefore we must look for the fault in ourselves. To the earnest Christian Scientist the experience of Jacob with Laban is not unusual, for the material thought will acknowledge as did Laban, "I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake." If we are doing our work aright, those about us are sure to feel the benefit. In realizing health, we must reflect it in some degree to those about us; in realizing harmony, those near become more harmonious.
