The first proof which I had that Christian Science is the Christ-way of healing disease, and that "the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear," came to me about two years ago. One of my fingers had caused me great pain; in fact, I had suffered from it for years, and physicians told me that there was no relief, as the trouble was due to an injured nerve, and that the pain would remain even if the finger should be amputated.

A neighbor who was a Christian Scientist then offered to help me, and I accepted her help. The pain shortly disappeared, and I have been free from it ever since. This experience led me to believe that other diseases from which I was suffering could be healed. For years I had been subject to attacks of acute stomach trouble, which produced fainting spells and would come on without warning. I had tried physicians of different schools, and a number of remedies, but with no relief. I was also troubled with a bowel disorder and with what the doctors called a disease of the bladder. In addition, I was severely ruptured, and neither allopathic nor homeopathic doctors had helped me, though I was operated upon five times. My eyes had been weak since childhood, so that for a number of years I had been obliged to wear glasses constantly, and I never knew what it was to be free from headaches. I also suffered from extreme nervousness.

It now seems almost impossible to believe that I am the same person who was carrying around this load of misery two years ago. After the proof which I had in the healing of my finger, I went to a Christian Science practitioner, under whose treatment I began to improve at once, and in six months' time my diseased condition was changed to one of health, so that I am now perfectly well. While the healing work was going on, I did what I could to help myself, by declaring the truth, as found in the Bible and Science and Health, and I still continue to make these declarations. Because I have learned to know the truth, the truth has made me free, even as the Master promised.
