I was always sick from infancy, my earliest recollection...

I was always sick from infancy, my earliest recollection being of a recovery from illness, when I was assisted to walk about the room by a brother and a sister. This disease, a form of rheumatism, held on to me until the age of thirtytwo, and each attack seemed more severe until there came a time when it seemed that every joint was in a vise and it was said I could not live. Materia medica and the surgeon's knife could do no more, as the medicine taken had lost all effect other than to paralyze me from my hips down, with enlarged joints and smaller joints set, and my memory was nearly gone.

While in this condition Christian Science was brought to my attention many times, but was always ignored as useless. In business I prospered and fell several times, until I found myself at last homeless and penniless in the great city of Chicago. In this condition, and still ignoring Christian Science, I made a break for liberty, and from being an architect, I went on the road. Again I fell sick, this time in a remote southern sawmill camp. It was in July, and a physician pronounced my sickness appendicitis. After one week spent under the influence of an opiate the usual verdict was given. Then a craving for Christian Science prompted me to write for help, and instantly I had strength to pencil a letter to a practitioner, a thousand miles away in the North, asking for treatment. In five days the answer came, bidding me remember that I was God's child, and this did sound good to me. I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep, and upon awakening, after some hours, what a change in all about me! It seemed as if I, too, saw a new heaven and new earth. I was well, and went back to my work the same afternoon.

I at once sent for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and it seemed as if I could not wait for it. When it came, I fairly devourced its contents, since which time my memory has completely returned. Instead of being able to work barely three hours a day, I am now frequently on duty for twenty-six hours at a time, in charge of large crews of men. I enjoy perfect health and could write pages setting forth various experiences, such as crushed hands, broken bones, so-called "tobacco heart," etc., which were healed by scientific Christianity. I am many times asked if I could ever retrograde into the old material thought, and I answer with a vigorous "No." Thanks be to God, also endless gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who discovered the real meaning of the Bible and gave us the Key to it so that even a child can understand and demonstrate its teachings.
