I first heard of Christian Science over twenty-one years...
I first heard of Christian Science over twenty-one years ago, at which time an aunt, who is a Christian Scientist, came to visit us. She found me ill and unable to work, but after a few treatments in Christian Science I went to work on a farm in Iowa, but soon got a position in Colorado as a drug clerk, where I stayed about four years. In all this time I met only one Christian Scientist, and as I had but little understanding of the truth, my gain seemed to be rather slow. I always felt, however, that the seed had been sown, and after returning to Minnesota I joined a branch church, united with The Mother Church, and took class instruction.
I then went to California, and while there I contracted what was said to be a malignant disease, which affected the head and caused me terrible suffering. After I had given Christian Science a fair trial, I did not doubt its power for a moment, as I experienced perfect healing from this malady. After returning to the East, I passed through some trials, mental and physical, but by a diligent study of the Bible and Science and Health I found that material law is null and void before the might of God's law. I saw then that divine law must be spiritual, and by demonstrating it for myself I also came to see that loss is gain. All these ills were overcome mainly through study of the Bible and our text-book, with some help from other Scientists. I have thereby come to understand better the psalmist's words: "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."
Winfield S. Stockman, Cresco, Iowa.
