Christian Science teaches belief in the Bible, and the first of the religious tenets of Christian Science reads as follows: "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497). This Science teaches that man's salvation comes through a spiritual sense of the Scriptures, and that God worketh in us, "both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

However much may be quoted in regard to salvation, Paul's statement, "Work out your own salvation," has special application in the light of what the Master said and did. It is true that "neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved;" and Christian Scientists subscribe to this. The Master gave us the way to work out our salvation through Christ, and in pointing out this way he healed all manner of sin and disease and did many mighty works. Salvation is the transformation of mind that gives us a better understanding of God, Life, and this understanding is "deliverance from temporal evils and earthly destructions."

It matters little how one may regard the various quotations given by "Layman," the fact remains that Christ Jesus pointed out the way to the Father, and Christian Scientists are striving to walk in that way, and to prove that "the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men."
