The Times
The entire structure of Christian Science is based on the knowledge of the Principle by which Christ Jesus demonstrated his system of doctrines and precepts. The effort of the Christian Science movement is to apply this knowledge to-day for humanity's deliverance from sin, disease, and discord. Christian Science vindicates its claim to be Christian because of the Christliness of its practice. The Founder of Christianity declared that those who loved him, and therefore those who were entitled to call themselves his followers, or Christians, were those who obeyed him; and among other commands, universal and confined to no age, was his injunction to heal the sick and cast out devils. It vindicates its claims to be Science on the ground that all true Science must be the orderly arrangement of ascertained facts about that which is real. Christian Science maintains that there is nothing to know but Deity and His creation. True Science must then begin with a correct, comprehensive, complete knowledge of God, and must end with a full understanding of God's creation.
Christian Science is not guesswork, neither is it faithcure in the sense that it is either fanatical or emotional in its inception or modus operandi. Christian Science practice is definite, precise, and systematic. It works according to law and is both rational and philosophical. Mrs. Eddy has said, "The Scriptures require more than a simple admission and feeble acceptance of the truths they present; they require a living faith that so incorporates their lessons into our lives, that these truths become the motive-power of every act" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 197).
