Among the many lessons I have had in Christian Science...

Among the many lessons I have had in Christian Science was the recent overcoming of an ingrowing toe-nail. The toe became badly inflamed and the condition seemed serious. For about ten days I attempted to work out the problem without aid, but gained no permanent relief. I then asked a practitioner for help, and for over two months faithful and efficient work was done. Not a moment of that work was wasted, for during the time latent terror was replaced by courage; certain human footsteps that were painful and slow had to be taken; environment was gradually changed, and thought after thought was uncovered and corrected, but the diseased toe still remained in evidence. We did not doubt for a moment that God could heal all our diseases, and at last the healing came quickly. During all this time I was able to wear my shoe as usual and was never absent from work. I now rejoice in the good I gained during the slow healing. It taught me patience and persistent endeavor, and through it I gained instruction that I could not have otherwise received. It required reconstruction, and a great deal of mental rubbish was consumed, leaving me on a firm and lasting foundation.

For this instance of healing and the innumerable benefits received through the ministry of Christian Science, to which I owe everything that I now am or have, I am very thankful. I desire to live the gratitude I feel for the spiritual uplifting,—a glimpse of the true God as revealed to this age by our beloved Leader, whose unselfed love has given mankind an understanding of the eternal Christ, Truth.—Eli K. Stough, Chicago, Ill.
