I have long had a desire to make acknowledgment of my gratitude to Christian Science for all the good that has come into my life through its teachings. The first I ever heard of this wonderful truth was fifteen years ago, when my mother-in-law was healed of a complication of diseases which the doctors had failed even to relieve, and they had given her only a short time to live. From the first its teachings appealed to me; I was so glad to find a real God,—"not a God of the dead, but of the living," a God who is Love, and who is "a very present help in trouble." Many times have the storms of error swept over us, sometimes shaking our little bark severely, but we have always clung steadfastly to our spiritual Rock as revealed in that inspired book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. It is not surprising that the great throng of those who have been so truly blest are loud in their praise of this great Leader.

Some people seem to get an impression that Christian Scientists are exempted from evil in some mysterious way, but this is not so; we have our trials, but we have learned to overcome them in God's way. The beliefs in contagion, heredity, accidents, and many other forms of physical discord have been destroyed for us through the study of this beautiful Science. A question that seems to perplex some people is why the reading of Science and Health heals and the reading of the Bible does not. We have found that the spiritual meaning of the Bible does heal, and Science and Health gives the spiritual meaning. My greatest joy is in having gained in a small degree this spiritual understanding which overcomes sin as well as sickness. I thank God sincerely for having given to this age such a great Leader; and that I may follow her "as she follows Christ" [Message to The Mother Church, 1902. p. 7], is my daily prayer.
