I first heard of Christian Science about nineteen years...
I first heard of Christian Science about nineteen years ago, and soon after this I saw the healing of a member of my own family by its means. I had always believed that God was good, but His "awful judgments" I could not clearly reason out. The stress laid by Scientists upon trusting the heavenly Father as the source of all good—as "good" itself—appealed to me from the first.
I was, however, in the world and of the world at that time, and so relegated the study of Christian Science to "a more convenient season," and that came a few years later—not as I had planned, but in a far different way; not after a well-spent life, a successful career, but after failure,—the darkest time of my life, it seemed. Then I saw the husks upon which I had been feeding, and returned to my Father's house. I was "afar off" and my progress seemed very slow at first, but, holding steadfastly to the thought of God, I have been led to a better understanding of Him as Life, Truth, Love—the divine Principle of being, and now I rejoice in Him always.
I have much to be thankful for in physical healing—more than I can tell—and for the cure of the "saloon habit" of thirty years' standing. If I had had no other single benefit than this, it would be enough of itself to keep me grateful, but above all I thank God continually for the general cleansing of my daily living, mentally, morally, and spiritually.
