I gladly testify to the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. Six years ago, through treatment and much reading of our beloved text-book, Science and Health, I was healed of a lifelong disease and of conditions which were often unbearable. Not only for this am I grateful, but I am still more grateful for the elucidation and interpretation of the Scriptures. What I had desired for so many years, I have now received, and I often ask myself, why could I not find this simple truth sooner and know that God is All in all, since I always loved God and His kingdom from earliest childhood and sought enlightenment with an ardent desire for all that was related to the mission of Christ?
All the qualities needed for the comprehension of this great truth were combined in Mrs. Eddy. I feel touched with profound gratitude for her firm, faithful perseverance amid the many trials which the world has caused her, instead of rewarding her for this greatest of all benefits, the knowledge of Truth which makes us free. This clear current of revelation in Mrs. Eddy's writings refreshes humanity which is sighing for salvation. For nineteen hundred years the word found in John: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent," has resounded through the world, yet not until we came into Christian Science has it been clear to us what this knowing means.
I wish to speak of one of the many demonstrations which I have had through this truth. Last January I suffered from a very severe and painful attack of inflammation of the lungs, my breathing seemed obstructed with phlegm on my chest, the cough seemed to choke me, my head was dizzy, and at the outbreak of this attack my effort to demonstrate was ineffectual. The third morning I was awakened early and it seemed as if the trouble had reached its crisis. I thought I must choke unless relief came quickly. I rang the bell, because I was alone and asked for the card of the Scientist whom I intended to have called, when suddenly I remembered how often I had been healed of such sudden attacks of illness through reading Science and Health, and that God was just as near to me as He had ever been; I belonged to Him, and was made in His image.
