Eight years ago when at a boarding school in Dresden, Germany, I was suffering terribly with my back. I had been to many doctors, who afforded me no relief, and they could not even tell me what was the matter with me. I had just been to one doctor who had experimented in burning my back to the bone with a red hot needle eleven times, to see, as he said, if the pain of the burning would dominate the other, and I was completely worn out, and did not care to live, when I was told about Christian Science.

A Scientist came to see me and advised me to read Science and Health. I did so and was healed without any treatment having been given. But still I did not think about the spiritual part, and simply thought I could be saved suffering and doctors' bills by having Christian Science treatments.

When I was in America three years ago, I was physically strong, but was suffering mentally, as I had grown tired of a society life, and did not know how to be happy in any other way. I was told about a practitioner who would talk to me and help me to understand Christian Science, and the first visit I paid him, I felt satisfied that he had something I greatly desired, and that was a contented mind.
