Love Gives
"O Israel , thou hast destroyed thyself."
In these words of Hosea lies all the pathos of human life: "destroyed thyself!" Yet in his added word, lies the full hope of the blessed promise, iterated and re-iterated to the children of Israel: "But in me is thine help." God is Love; and love is the law of life. As we love God, love our brother, abide in love, we regain life.
The later words of St. Paul to the Romans pierce my heart to-day, "Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonorest thou God?"
