About twenty-two years ago, when riding on horseback, the horse fell with me, breaking my left leg between the knee and ankle, and also twisting the ankle out of joint. The ankle was not put back into its place, but left to heal as it was, causing severe pain at times. I suffered greatly. Sometimes I wondered if there really were a God. I thought I strange that God, if He existed, could let any one suffer as I did.

I consulted several physicians and tried many different kinds of liniment. I also took electrical applications, but all to no purpose, as I received only temporary relief, if indeed I received any relief at all.

About a year ago I suffered worse than ever before, sometimes being able to sleep but very little at night. I was then about to give up in despair. I quit the physicians, their liniments, and God. I really had given up in despair, when God in His mercy by means of Christian Science proved Himself to be an ever-present help in time of trouble and affliction.
