The Command to Preach
"AFTER these things the Lord appointed other seventy also. . . . And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you" (Luke, 10 : 1, 9).
This command to preach the Gospel and heal the sick was given not only to the Apostles and to the "other seventy," but also to all mankind who believe on him. "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils" (Mark, 16 : 17).
This must be the basis of all true religious belief, and obeying this command is an obligation we must fulfil, not in part but in its entirety. To preach the Gospel without healing the sick is not obeying the divine command. This healing of the sick is the outward manifestation the unenlightened can have of the authoritative preaching of the Gospel, and gives the stamp of the genuine follower of Jesus the same as it did nineteen hundred years ago.
