Among the Churches

THE most unique and interesting opening services in local history were those held yesterday (Sunday, March 16), opening to the public the new chapel of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in this city. There were three separate services, the second and third being repetitions of the first, held thus to enable all to attend who wished to be present at the church opening. There were three distinctive features that struck the observer as notable, — the quiet, tasteful elegance of the interior of the little church, the simple beauty of the services, and the fact that no collection of money was taken up, and there was no request in any form made for funds from those who attended.

The church and all appurtenances thereto were paid for by voluntary contributions by the members.

The handsome little church on North Third Street was filled at all three of the services. The auditorium has about two hundred and fifty seats, and in addition to these there were fifty folding chairs used at the 10.30 A.M. service.
