After about seven years of health and benefits received...
After about seven years of health and benefits received from Christian Science, I feel it my duty to offer for publication an acknowledgment of the great good that has come to me through Christian Science.
For all these years I have felt that I owed this just acknowledgment to Truth. I was under bondage to numerous ills, chief of which was dyspepsia with its concomitants, such as bad liver, diseased kidneys, heart trouble, etc. I had tried all usual methods from material standpoints. After materia medica came massage, electropoise, mineral springs, sea voyage, etc. After becoming almost totally discouraged and disheartened, I commenced to investigate several of the different religious faiths, thinking I ought to prepare to die. I did not find anything there that appealed to me.
One dark, dismal day (to my thought) my wife asked me why I did not try Christian Science. It seemed to me that she had struck the right note, and I said I believed I would. My wife was not a Scientist, but we had had a lady living with us who was, and she unknowingly directed me to those who were not Christian Scientists. After a few days of treatment and talk with a believer in that faith, and receiving no help, in a conversation she denied Mrs. Eddy's being the Founder of Christian Science. I found I had gotten on the wrong track. The same day or the next I went to see a loyal student of our dear Mother. I commenced treatment with this loving disciple. I think I was about as discordant and discouraged a person as could possibly exist in this belief. There did not seem to be one ray of light, all looked dark and gloomy and my friends thought I had not long to stay with them. I cannot forget how patiently and lovingly my healer led me out of that dense darkness and fear. Little by little I gained courage, until in about three weeks I seemed to have gotten out into the great sunshine of God's dear Love.
