The last Sentinel has just passed from my hands to the table, and I can only think of it as a dear messenger of Truth. How eagerly I scan its pages and treasure every thought of Truth and Love found therein, no one but a Scientist can tell. But especially in this last number have I found many suggestions in different articles that are helpful and encouraging, and give much food for thought. There is one short selected article entitled, "The Skilful Gardener," which brings to mind a garden which I worked in when in former years I lived at the old loved home; and with what pride I faithfully worked to uproot every weed, that the vegetables growing there might stand out free and clear; for I could see that if they grew surrounded and shaded by weeds they were spindling and weakly, and if the weeds were uprooted while in that state, the hot sun would destroy the plants, and they would perhaps not grow at all. I have not for some years been working in the old garden at home, but am still working and weeding a garden, and mind is my field of labor. I can see that if thoughts of hatred were not put out, the seeds of love I would sow could not take root, and grow, and expand into the power which has "healing in his wings." I am trying now to weed out thoughts of malice, hatred, envy, jealousy, self, and others of like nature, and let thoughts of good take their place. I know that good thoughts will take root and grow to full fruitage if the weeds of evil are kept out to give room for the good.
I was healed in Science eight years ago, after having given up all hope of receiving help from medicine, of a chronic stomach trouble of over twenty years' standing. In the past eight years I have been able to demonstrate the Science to some extent, but have also labored under many discouragements because error seemed to creep in unawares; but I am now trying to be more watchful, and evil thoughts are fast fleeing before the the radiant light of omnipresent Good. I find myself oftener asking the question found on page 469 of Science and Health, by Mary Baker G. Eddy: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme Good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love?" The better understanding I get of Christian Science and its divine Principle, — Love, — the more gratitude I feel to its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. and my heart o'erflows with gratitude for the benefits received from its teachings.— K. T., Cortland, O.
