Sonnet

"Thine is the kingdom." Though o'er earth's fair fields,
Warriors have marched by mad ambition led,
And fear and ruin in their path have spread,
Such have but striven for a goal that yields
But vanity at last; for he who wields
An earthly sceptre rules but in a dream.
"Thine is the kingdom." Though it oft may seem
That selfishness, and avarice, and pride,
Dwell in the hearts of men, and there hold sway,
Yet he who sees with vision clarified,
Precious, above the mist, the eternal day;
Beholds, illumined with a light divine,
God's universe; and hears glad voices say
"Thine is the kingdom, and the glory thine."
